Smell is wonderful in its ability to arouse memories.

Marcel Proust, in his book “Remembrance of Things Past” wrote about his memories of the smell of an  immersed  cookie in tea. “…after   people are dead, after things are broken and scattered,  the  smell  and taste of things remains poised a long time  like souls…”
