Madelaines

2013

I wander in flea markets, looking for used utensils, vessels that carry family memories. I find single pieces, single plates,  remains. I find on each plate stamps, almost uniform in size. I relate to these as origin hints, as family, cultural finger prints.

I gather a group of prints to be part of a jewelry piece.

I hand cut the prints out of the plates. I relate to mass produced cheap plates as "found objects", as a valuable material.

I set the cut prints, as precious stones and create a sequence into a necklace. I record, categorize an occurrence, a situation,  I create a quote that testifies a point in time of immigration, of a lifetime.
